Western New York's premier running club. Checkers Mission Statement Checkers Athletic Club promotes a positive, healthy physical and mental well-being primarily through the sport of running. Members consist of runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, who interact athletically and socially to achieve their personal goals. - Checkers is home to runners of all levels. To get a taste of it, you are welcome to come to a track practice any Tuesday evening between April and October. - Track practices are run (no pun intended) by Vicki Mitchell, who coaches the U.B. track and cross country teams. - She is an excellent coach and will help you with any aspect of your running. - There are about 125 runners at track on any given Tuesday. Runners are separated into groups, so you run only with those of equal pace to yours. - There are different workouts each week and they last about an hour.
