Club Bio
In 1968 we formed the San Antonio Marathon Association (SAMA) made up from high school runners mainly from Edison, Judson, and Kenedy. We started the first three marathons in San Antonio, The Richard Lozano Marathon, in honor of a Burbank graduate, an outstanding individual and gifted athlete who lost his life in a tragic accident. In the ensuing years we sponsored half marathons, long distance relays and the Free Spirits Track Festival still being held today on six Mondays in June and Jul usually at Antonian College Preparatory High School track. In 2011 we held the meets at MacArthur High School track. In the last few years we have had the meets at Brackenridge High School. In the seventies we changed the name to the Free Spirits Track Club, recently becoming a 501c3 non-profit organization.
