Club Bio
Our Mission: To promote running for fitness, friendship and athletic development, in support of our members and the Frederick community. How do we do this? By helping to plan and support running events, group runs, and training programs By coordinating and providing information about running events and training resources in our area By supporting local charities through donations of race proceeds. By helping runners of all types to run, learn, grow, AND HAVE GREAT TIMES TOGETHER! Club Operations: The Steeplechasers are a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, made up of people who want to make a contribution and give something back to the running community for all the benefit that it provides us. Join Us: Admittedly, we’re a little bit biased. But we think that if you’re a runner (or are thinking about becoming a runner!) in the Frederick area, you should become a Steeplechaser! Membership includes group runs, free training programs (from a 5k to ultra distances), social events, four free races a year, running-related volunteer opportunities, and discounts to many area running events. Why are we called the Steeplechasers? We get this question a lot. It’s not because we do steeplechases. Steeplechasers is a play on words that is derived from the city of Frederick being known for its “clustered spires,” referred to in a famous poem about the town. We have no religious affiliation and generally don’t ride horses or do a lot of hurdling. We’re just folks who like to stay fit through running and enjoy some punny names along the way!
